Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance/Scholarships

Policy Statement: It is the policy of the YMCA to provide services to all those who need them regardless of ability to pay established fees. The intent of this policy is to be accomplished by the setting of fees at rates affordable to the majority of the residents in the service area and by providing financial assistance to those whom the YMCA’s fees are not affordable.  Those not able to pay a fee may be awarded a full or partial assistance based on their demonstrated ability to pay and the YMCA’s ability to fund the amount requested.

The YMCA wants to be sure that assistance goes to those most in need.  With information on income, expenses, and family size, we can award in a fair and consistent manner.   Assistance will be granted on the basis of financial need.  The family income guidelines used by the YMCA are based upon a sliding scale and are used as initial eligibility criteria. The YMCA believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed if the financial assistance recipient contributes to the cost of their YMCA involvement; therefore the applicants will be asked to pay a portion of the membership or program fees. Financial assistance will be reviewed for eligibility for each membership or program period.

What is the YMCA Financial Assistance Program?

The YMCA Financial Assistance Program provides scholarship assistance to individuals and families in need of financial support, allowing them to participate in membership and program activities.  This support is funded by generous donations made to the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign and United Way contributions.  Financial Assistance is granted based on available resources, program space, and financial need.

How long will an individual’s financial assistance continue?

All financial assistance granted for memberships will be given for a maximum period of one year, but can be reviewed as often as necessary.  An individual must then follow the same procedure to re-apply for assistance. Scholarships will not be automatically renewed, each participant must resubmit the necessary verification. NOTE: All participants are expected to notify the YMCA if their financial situation changes.

How do I apply?


  • Complete the Financial Assistance Application.  This is available at the front desk of the YMCA, through the mail by telephone request or on our website.  All applications must be completed thoroughly and accurately. 
  • Submit copies of the following documents:
  1. Last two pay check stubs OR Most recent IRS tax form (1040 or 1040 EZ)
  2. Free/Reduced Lunch Letter from school district
  3. Social Security stubs (if applicable)
  4. Child Support Letter (if applicable)
  5. Any other income documentation
  • A member of the YMCA professional staff will contact you within 2 weeks after the completed application is received by the YMCA regarding the status of your application.


How will the financial assistance amount be determined?

We use a sliding fee scale, based on total household income, number of dependents and special needs or circumstances; as well as the resources and program availability for which you are applying for assistance.

How is financial information handled?

All financial information is kept confidential.
