The Worthington Area YMCA is proud to be the organizer for the Annual King Turkey Day Celebration. All King Turkey Day (KTD) events are held in downtown Worthington. Competitive races include a 5K & 10K and casual walk for familes.
The Worthington Area YMCA has developed 5K and 10K training programs for a wide range of experience levels. Participants that register receive their choice of 5K or 10K training plan in Beginner: Walk/Run, Beginner: Run, Intermediate or Advanced level. The goal of the KTD Training Programs are to get the best YOU across the finish line; whether you want to start from the couch (walk/run) or are an experienced, competitive runner (advanced), there is a program specific for you. Programs are professionaly developed and provide pacing charts to help you find your goals.
The Beginner 1a or Walk/Run programs are designed for individuals looking to complete their first race and cross the finish line. No prior experience needed. With the Walk/Run format you will begin conditioning your body and work towards completing the race in a Walk/Run style; where you will walk for recovery then run for a duration followed by a walk to recover.
The Beginner 1b or Run programs are designed for individuals looking to complete their first race and cross the finish line. No prior experience needed. These programs will help you develop the conditioning level to cross this finish line without taking long walking recover breaks. A great running protocol for any individuals who is active but may not do much running.
The Intermediate programs for 5K or 10K are targeted towards individuals who may run once in a while or are fairly active in other physical activity. Whether you pick the 5K or 10K program, you will build your conditioning level and look to push yourself on the group running days.
Advanced programs are for individuals who would like to capture a PR or really push themselves in performance. Pace times are calculated at a more challenging percentage to push you in your workouts.
